I have been trying to figure the same thing out. From what i can tell, the favorites are the Racing Beat Revi intake system (almost looks stock) or the AEM Cold Air Intake. I am hoping ti go with the RB one with the air duct, see below links. From what I am told no matter what intake you get, gains are very minimal.
Racing Beat Intake itself

both cold air and short ram will give you nothing in an 8.....the only way to get real power is forced induction....

yeah, Mazda got just about every drop of power they could out of the 8. The gains seem to be single digit HP for each upgrade - ie intake=2-5 Hp, cat/midpipe/etc = 2-5 Hp, and so on. So for each ~500 dollar item you buy you add a few hp. Hardly worth it, imo. FI or the "soon to be released" SC can boost the HP dramatically - but are fackin pricey.

i have to agree! I'm assuming the reason for the low boost level on the Greddy kit is due to fuel injectors/pump...but still at 5k is really pricey for the gain.
I think you guys are better off with a 50 shot of nos...its the same gain as the turbo kit and cost way less!!!!
Id go ahead and get the catback/intake if nothing else for the "sporty sound"

I think a better way to see an increase in performance would be to lose the weight. From what I keep reading and here all the time it would appear that 10lbs = 1hp. so just make sure nobody sits in your car when you want to go fast. Me personally I'm going to be getting the Revi intake with the ram air duct from racing beat, followed by a JIC full titanium exhaust. Yes I know the exhaust will run me more than 1300K but I love this car and want the best for it, besides I read it weighs less than 18lbs, thats freakin light as shit. So in that aspect, you get weight saving plus some extra HP from the new exhaust itself.

My 04 RX-8 had the K&N Typhoon CAI in it. Had a nice sound but as previously stated HP gains are minimal. If you want to feel a performance improvement work on responsiveness of the motor and actually getting the power to the wheels. Black Halo Racings ignition coil pack will deffinatly give you a throttle response you can feel. ACT's streetlite flywheel is about 9lbs, about 4lbs lighter than the OEM flywheel.
